REI AMI Tells Oscars Haters “Suck It” After Historic KPop Demon Hunters Win

REI AMI does not hesitate to give its honest opinion.

The singer, whose voice is featured in the Oscar-winning animated movie KPop Demon Hunters for the character Zoey, responded strongly to online criticism after the movie’s historic Oscar wins.

REI AMI responds to a tweet that said, “a movie called kpop demon hunters really won an oscar.” REI AMI responded with a simple yet assertive comment: “Suck it.”

This came at a time when the movie made history by winning Oscars in the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song categories for “Golden.” This is the first time a K-pop song has won in this category.

REI AMI is featured in “Golden,” which is sung by a fictional K-pop group, HUNTR/X, in the movie, and plays a pivotal role in the storyline.

However, this win has sparked controversy in some quarters.

Some online users have questioned whether REI AMI and the K-pop group’s win for “Golden” is genuine, given similarities to “I Am” by IVE, which came out in 2023.

Another backlash arose over the acceptance speech, with the audience feeling that the movie team should have acknowledged BTS rather than contemporary female K-pop groups like IVE. However, the supporters felt it was an acknowledgment of BTS’s contribution to K-pop’s global expansion.

“Acknowledging the public, celebrate appropriately; why be active on Twitter? You did not prove anyone wrong. It was broadly anticipated that Golden would prevail,” one of the online responses read.

“Well, Anora and Emilia Perez won Oscars last year, so their judgment has not been exemplary lately; KDH did not deserve this win,” another response read.

“CONGRATS, YOU ALL DESERVED IT. THIS FILM WAS NOT ONLY GOLDEN OR A MASTERPIECE; IT WAS A WORK OF ART AND CULTURE. WELL DONE. CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SECOND MOVIE. THIS IS TRULY A GOLDEN MOMENT, AND YOU ALL SHOWED THEM HOW IT’S DONE,” a supporter of the movie commented.
