Rep. Yassamin Ansari harshly criticized President Donald Trump, saying he refused to attend the signing ceremony for a bipartisan housing bill. The bill will help increase housing supply and reduce housing costs in the country. However, Trump insisted on passing election legislation in Congress first.
Despite the bill’s bipartisan nature, it received support in Congress and passed 358-32. Nevertheless, the President refused to participate in the signing at the House of Representatives. In addition, he demanded that Congress pass his law, called the SAVE America Act, which concerns voter eligibility and election integrity.
Asked why Trump did not attend the ceremony or sign the bill, Ansari admitted he was amazed.
“I didn’t think that I could get shocked by anything that Donald Trump does, but he was literally handed a bipartisan housing bill that would increase supply, that would lower costs on a silver platter,” Ansari said. “It would have been such an easy win for him during a time when he’s been so unpopular between his cover-up of the Epstein files and this illegal war that he screwed up.”
Ansari added that the President could easily celebrate his great success in housing, but he preferred to promote his election-related bill.
“He could have said, I did this big housing bill. And because he’s more committed to rigging the election this fall, he chose to completely blow it all up,” Ansari continued. “Their party is a mess. Donald Trump is a joke. And he is really a joke.”
Ansari commented on allegations that the postmaster general refuses to deliver mail-in ballots. She said she had not heard such rumors before and found them outrageous.
“Mail-in voting is one of the most secure forms of voting in Arizona. It’s wildly, wildly popular,” Ansari added. “More than 80% of Arizonans from all political backgrounds vote by mail.”
She accused Trump of sabotaging the upcoming election and advised legislators to react to it.
“Donald Trump wants to rig the election. Donald Trump knows that he is the most unpopular President, that he is the most corrupt President, and that people are over it. And so he’s trying to sabotage all of it,” Ansari concluded. “I think Americans should be deeply alarmed, and we need to be taking that very seriously in Congress to make sure that we are doing everything we can to protect our elections this November.”
