Serena Williams Exits Wimbledon After Losing To Harmony Tan

Serena Williams lost in the first round of Wimbledon in her first singles match in a year.

Williams was defeated in a tiebreaker by Harmony Tan of France in the most thrilling first-round match in Wimbledon history.

At 40 years of age, she came from a set down and saved a match point in her first singles match in 12 months before narrowly losing in a tie-break.

This becomes Williams’ third time losing in an opening round of a major. The other two came at the 2012 French Open against Virginie Razzano and at last year’s Wimbledon against Aliaksandra Sasnovich (retired due to a hamstring injury).

Harmony Tan secured her first-ever Wimbledon victory over the 23-time Grand Slam champion. She will move on to face the number 32 ranked Sara Sorribes Tormo.
