Disney Channel actress Skai Jackson clarified in her latest Twitch stream that the penthouse in her show ‘Jessie’ wasn’t really a penthouse at all.
One of the viewers asked her if the setting was real or staged.
“So, is the penthouse that y’all stayed in during the Jessie, was that real life or scripted?” the viewer asked.
“It was, we filmed on a soundstage. It wasn’t a real penthouse. It was literally built with sets,” Jackson replied. “So, the living room was a built set.”
The star knew that her admission would upset many of her fans.
“I know everyone’s gonna get mad at me for saying this, because they, every time they try to be like, oh, here she comes,” she said. “You guys asked me if it, like, things about the set, and, no, it’s not real.”
Jackson explained how much of the penthouse set was faked.
“The penthouse is not real. It was a built set,” she continued. “Central Park was not real. We never filmed in New York, period. It was a built set. The lobby was not real. The rocks in Central Park were not real. There’s Styrofoam. The background wasn’t real. It was a freaking, like, think of a shower curtain thing with a printed thing in the back.”
The only real thing was the pet skink, Mrs. Kipling, although sometimes they used his stand-in.
“The only thing that was real was Mrs. Kipling,” Jackson said. “They did have a fake version of him, Frank, that they would use, cause, again, he’s a wild animal and sometimes hard to deal with. So he was like about the only thing that’s real.”
Once again, she emphasized her point and switched to the topic of shooting studios.
“We never filmed in a real penthouse, guys,” she stressed. “I don’t think you guys understand. A lot of these shows are like that. Literally every Disney show you’ve seen, Liv and Maddie, whatever, they’re not filming in a real house. They’re not filming really outdoors. They’re on a soundstage. It’s all fake. Soundstage. Soundstage.”
The star also shared details about the shooting location for her show.
“We worked at Hollywood Center Studios,” she said. “That isn’t Hollywood. You can Google it now. I think it’s called Sunset Las Palmas Studios. But Hollywood Center Studios. I will actually Google it for you guys and show you guys exactly where we filmed, because y’all be trying to chew me up.”
She said that this shooting studio has changed a lot since she worked there.
“Yeah, see, they changed a lot of it. They changed a lot of it,” Jackson added. “But when I worked there, this is what it looked like. And it said Hollywood Center Studios. So this is like the entrance. And yeah, this is the entrance. And we would come down this way, and Jessie was filming right in that building.”
The actress wanted to give her audience a glimpse of the studio where she was shooting.
“Let me see if I can find a picture, cause I know this place at the back of my freaking hand,” she said. “So, this is the entrance to it. Now it’s called Sunset Las Palmas Studios. I don’t know why they changed the name, but this is the entrance to where we pull in every day.”
‘Jessie’ was a Disney Channel show that aired from 2011 to 2015 and centered on a nanny caring for four kids in New York City.
