South Mecklenburg High School Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Activity with Student

Gabriela Neufeld, a 26-year-old science teacher at South Mecklenburg High School, was arrested following allegations of engaging in sexual activity with a student, as reported by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Following an interview with law enforcement, Neufeld was arrested on Wednesday. Neufeld and the student allegedly had “intercourse or a sexual act” at least five times since October 18, according to court documents.

The alleged incidents took place away from the school grounds, along Closeburn Road near Park Road Park. The student in question is said to be 18 years old.

Principal Marc Angerer addressed families, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter and expressing shared concerns about the situation’s impact on student safety. Angerer assured that the situation is being handled by law enforcement.

“We take this matter seriously,” South Meck Principal Marc Angerer said in a message to families. “We share your concerns regarding this situation. The safety and security of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to us all, and while this is a troubling situation, it is being managed by law enforcement.”

The science teacher was charged with five counts of felony sexual activity with a student. Her bond was set at $75,000, and she was released from jail early Thursday morning. The judge ordered Neufeld to be monitored electronically and to have no contact with the student in question.

Neufeld had been suspended with pay, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, as of November 29th. A final decision on her employment status is pending review by the school board.
