Miami prosecutors have filed a felony robbery and a misdemeanor battery charge against boxer/streamer DeenTheGreat, whose birth name is Nurideen Shabazz. The charges arise from the alleged fight between the influencer and a woman on a yacht on May 27, according to court records obtained by TMZ.
Should the boxer/streamer be found guilty on the felony charge, he may face up to 15 years in prison, TMZ reports.
The incident occurred on May 27 in Miami Beach. After a woman was ejected from a yacht, police responded to the 200 block of North Shore Drive, NBC 6 South Florida reported based on an arrest report. The woman, Destiny Aleman, reported that Shabazz forced her to leave the boat after other men attempted to talk to her.
According to the woman, Shabazz prohibited her from talking to anyone else during the yacht trip. She informed police that after being ejected from the boat, he grabbed her forearm to prevent her from filming him and attempted to snatch her cell phone, leaving her with a small scratch mark on her left forearm.
The owner of the yacht, which he lent to Shabazz, provided investigators with the footage of the event. According to police, the footage revealed Shabazz making several attempts to grab the phone from the woman, who crouched on the floor to defend the device.
Shabazz was arrested as he left the yacht. According to police, his story contradicted the information they got from the video.
The boxer/streamer was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in connection with a robbery/strong-arm/attempt charge, according to jail records. Bond was set at $2,500, and the court ordered him to have no contact with the woman. Adrien Broner, a former boxing champion and Shabazz’s frequent collaborator, paid the bond, according to TMZ.
Shabazz entered a not guilty plea and requested a jury trial. Additionally, the boxer/streamer requested discovery from prosecutors.
Richard Cooper, Shabazz’s lawyer, told TMZ that his client “has had a target on his back for some time now,” that “the facts are not entirely clear,” and that people need to wait for the court decision.
Shabazz, 25, who resides in the vicinity of Tampa, gained a lot of internet followers through live streaming, feuding on the internet, and crossover boxing matches. Shabazz participated in seven fights under the banner of Misfits Boxing, winning six of them. His victims include Walid Muhsein and David Fogarty, while Shabazz lost to Amado Vargas in Dubai, according to Yahoo Sports and MMA News.
