President Donald Trump’s announcement of a US withdrawal from northern Syria paved the way for Turkey’s incursion against Kurdish-led forces, previously backed by US forces, in northern Syria.

All US troops withdrawing from northern Syria are expected to be relocated to western Iraq, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper confirmed. Mr Esper told reporters that, under current plans, about 1,000 soldiers would be redeployed to help stop the resurgence of Islamic State (IS). President Donald Trump has previously pledged to bring US troops home.
Kurds briefly block US forces leaving Syria with signs including one reading: “To the US Army who are leaving northeast Syria now tell your children that the children of the Kurds were killed by the Turks and we did nothing to protect them.”
The humiliation of American soldiers in the ME is now complete under Donald Trump.
