The Soul Train Awards 2023, presented by BET, celebrated the best in Black culture and entertainment with a star-studded night of unforgettable performances and honors. The show, which aired on Sunday, November 26, was hosted by Emmy® Award-winning actor, recording artist, media producer, and entrepreneur Keke Palmer, who brought her charisma and charm to the stage.
The night’s biggest winner was SZA, who took home four awards for her critically acclaimed album CTRL and her hit single “Good Days”. The singer-songwriter won ‘Best R&B/Soul Female Artist,’ ‘Album of the Year,’ ‘Song of the Year,’ and ‘The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award.’ She also delivered a stunning performance of “Good Days” and “I Hate You” from her upcoming album Planet Her.
Other notable winners included Usher, who received three awards for his contributions to R&B and soul music, including the ‘Certified Soul Award,’ which recognizes artists who have made a lasting impact on the genre. He also won ‘Best R&B/Soul Male Artist’ and ‘Best Collaboration’ for his song “Come Thru” featuring Summer Walker and 21 Savage. Usher performed a medley of his hits, including “Yeah!”, “Confessions”, and “Bad Habits”.
Victoria Monét, who recently announced her pregnancy, also won two awards: ‘Best Dance Performance’ and ‘Video of The Year’ for her viral song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” featuring Lil Nas X. The duo performed the song live for the first time, with a dazzling display of choreography and costumes.
The show also featured special moments and appearances by some of the brightest stars in Black culture and entertainment, such as Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Anderson. Paak, H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Lucky Daye, Silk Sonic, and more. The legendary Chaka Khan received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for her iconic career and influence on music. She performed a medley of her classics, such as “I’m Every Woman”, “Ain’t Nobody”, and “Through the Fire”.
The Soul Train Awards 2023 was a soulful house party of the year, celebrating the excellence and diversity of Black music and culture.
Fans can watch the encore presentation of the show on Monday, November 27 at 9 PM ET/PT and Wednesday, November 29 at 6 PM ET/PT on BET.
The show will also air internationally on BET Africa, BET France, and My5 and Sky On-Demand in the UK.
