Tanzyn Crawford revealed that while there has been some backlash from people over her casting as Tanselle in HBO’s series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” which is part of the popular Game of Thrones universe, the actress has received a vote of confidence from author George R. R. Martin.
The actress opened up to Wonderland magazine about her experience joining the universe with one of the most passionate fan bases in television history.
“It was intimidating to step into something that people are so connected to, love so much, and have a lot of opinions about. I definitely did get some negativity around race, but at the end of the day, I’m employed – and I’m following my dreams.”
The HBO series, based on Martin’s novellas about the character Dunk and Egg, takes place decades before the original Game of Thrones series and follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, as they go on adventures.
Tanselle, played by Crawford, is a puppeteer who meets Duncan at a tournament, and her character appears in Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” originally published in 1998.
Martin personally assured Crawford that she was exactly what he had envisioned for the role when he cast her.
