Texas Woman Explains Why She’s Not Waiting on a Proposal: “I’ve Never Seen a Successful Marriage”

A chance encounter with a vacationing couple turned into a pointed exchange about marriage, engagement rings and relationship milestones, according to a TikTok video that has circulated widely online.

The video was posted by a user who identifies herself as Fer. Filmed from her car after a night out with friends, it recounts a dinner in Austin that she said left her angry hours later.

“B—-, let me tell you the s— that happened at girls’ night that has me f—— pissed, okay? Like, it has me so mad still; every time I think about it, I get repissed. Okay?” she said at the start of the video.

Fer said the group had gathered near her home before walking to a restaurant a short distance away.

“Me and my girls, we went out to Girls Night. We’re gonna go eat, celebrate. That b—- is a little skinty now, you know what I mean? So we, um, we meet up outside of my house, and we’re walking to our dinner reservation. And I live right by the place that we’re going to dinner,” she said.

On the way, she said, a couple approached the group.

“And as we’re walking, a couple approaches us. The couple comes up to us, okay? And, um, my friend thinks they. They’re gonna ask us for, um, us to take their picture. So my friend goes, do you guys want a picture? And they go, oh, uh, no. Like, they look super confused, and they’re like, we’re actually from Houston. We came down for her birthday. Um, and it’s like, we don’t know where to go to dinner, you know, like,” she said.

With her own 9:15 p.m. reservation approaching, Fer said, the group suggested the restaurant where they were headed and warned that tables in the city fill quickly.

“And we’re like, oh, s—. Like, I don’t know. It’s. At this point, it’s 8. It’s 8:45, b—-. Like, our dinner reservations at 9:15. So we tell him, like, oh, you know what? Like, I think there’s an opening where we’re going to dinner. Like, you guys should maybe try to get in there. There. That opening might still be available. It’s just really late. So you have to get something, like, ASAP in Austin. If you live in Austin, like, this s—‘s booked up. Like, these, like, cute little fancy restaurants, like, they get booked quick, so they find a reservation, and they book it,” she said.

The two parties ended up at the same restaurant, and the visitors stopped by the group’s table after their meal, she said.

“And we’re like, oh, cool. Like, that’s so cute. We’ll see you guys there. Like, our reservations there, too. Tonight. We go, we see him, we wave, we get sat a few tables away from him. They get up to leave. After their dinner, we’re still having dessert. They come to say, like, thanks for the, um. Thanks for the suggestion, like, it was great. We’re like, come. No, sit down. Like, come have some dessert with us. Like, it’s your birthday week, or it’s your birthday. Um, have some dessert with us, blah, blah. We have him sit down with us, right? We just start talking, you know, we’re all vibing. We’re all talking,” she said.

The conversation turned to dating, according to Fer’s account, and the visiting man offered a blunt assessment of men.

“Um, and then her boyfriend, like, I don’t know, the conversation goes. Like, it starts. We’re. We start talking about, like, the dating scene, right? And the boyfriend goes, yeah. Like, I mean, all men are, like, pieces of s—, basically. Like, you just have to find, like, one you’re willing to deal with,” she said.

Fer said she pushed back, describing her partner of six years in favorable terms.

“And I was like, my man isn’t. Like, my man really isn’t. Like, I’m not even. Like, I’m just not even trying to gas him up. Like, does the man irritate me sometimes? Yes. Um. Is he a piece of s—? F—, no. Actually, he’s so f—— amazing. So I. You’ll never catch me talking s— about my man, girl. He’s amazing. So I was like, oh, my man isn’t. I’ve been with him for 6 years. But I. I mean, my man’s great,” she said.

That prompted a question about an engagement ring, she said — one she characterized as condescending.

“And, like, I don’t know if they took offense to me saying that, but the girl goes, I was like, we’ve been together for six years. I have no complaints. And the girl goes, “Oh, like, well, six years. Where’s your ring? What is people’s obsession with marriage? Like, it just felt like she said it, so, like, well, where’s your ring? Sweetheart?” she said.

In the video, Fer answered by contrasting the two relationships and detailing a birthday trip arranged by her partner.

“This man brought you to Austin for your birthday. You guys got here at 9 p.m. He didn’t even have a reservation for you guys. Had to ask us for my birthday with no ring since you guys are so f—— obsessed with it. I had a helicopter ride. Then I got taken to Louis Vuitton. I picked out my birthday bag because Goyard was closed, and I wanted to go yard, but I settled for Louis Vuitton. And then we went to Nobu, which was pre-booked a month in advance, just so you know, on my birthday trip. Okay. Okay,” she said.

She closed by questioning the emphasis placed on marriage more broadly.

“I don’t know what. People’s obsession with marriages, which I. I just really don’t get it. I’ve never seen a successful marriage. Um, I wasn’t raised in one, so I’m not really in a rush to get into something that I’ve never seen succeed. You know what I mean, like, am I crazy?” she said.
