The Box Office Report: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Edges Out Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Optimus Prime and Miles Morales, two of our favorites, competed for the top spot at the box office this weekend.

According to Variety, “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” beat out “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” in its first weekend at the domestic box office, grossing $60.5 million. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” came in second place, grossing an estimated $55.4 million in its second weekend. The Sony film has grossed over $300 million at the global box office.

“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, grossed $110 million in 68 international markets, for a total global debut of $170.5 million.

The Little Mermaid,” starring Halle Bailey, earned $23 million in its third weekend in 4,320 locations across the United States and Canada. To date, the live-action film has grossed $414.2 million worldwide.

Two other Walt Disney Co. films rounded out the top five, with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” coming in fourth place with $7 million in its sixth weekend. The global box office for the Marvel film has topped $800 million. In weekend two, “The Boogeyman” came in fifth place with $6.9 million. Since its release, the film has earned nearly $25 million in the United States.
