Disney Channel and Disney+ have already commissioned the next movie in The Cheetah Girls franchise titled The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen, in which Raven-Symoné and Adrienne Bailon will star as the iconic characters Galleria and Chanel.

Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter will reprise their roles of Dorothea and Juanita, respectively. Sabrina Bryan will make a special appearance as Dorinda, and Sophia Bush will join the cast as a new character called Jennifré.

In the new movie, there will be a whole new bunch of young actors, including Leah Sava Jeffries (best known for Percy Jackson and the Olympians), who will play Faith, Galleria’s daughter. The role of Chanel’s sister, Dior, will be filled by Carmen Sanchez of Electric Bloom. Also in the cast are Kaileen Chang (Ruby) and Sophie Lennon (Brooklyn). Kamogelo Ramashala, a newcomer from South Africa selected through an international casting call by Disney, will play Kendi.

According to the official statement, The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen tells the story of Galleria and Chanel traveling to Africa with Faith and her friends to volunteer in the wildlife sanctuary. During the trip, the girls will face many obstacles that threaten their friendship and their identities, but in the end, they will become a new generation of Cheetah Girls, saving the sanctuary.

The franchise will have an executive producer, Debra Martin Chase, best known for producing the original three Cheetah Girls movies and The Princess Diaries. Bille Woodruff, a director whose resume includes Bridgerton, will direct and produce the movie. Kara Holden, Sarah Watson, and Deborah Swisher are the screenwriters. Kyle Hanagami will choreograph, and Bailon will co-produce the movie. Disney Kids & Family is making the movie based on the novel series written by Deborah Gregory. The filming will start this month in South Africa.

Ayo Davis, the president of Disney Kids & Family, described the franchise as a phenomenon created on the values of friendship, music, and finding one’s voice in the world.

It should be noted that the original trilogy of Cheetah Girls movies was a huge hit on Disney Channel, and the franchise still has many fans. The movie, released in 2003, became the most-watched movie on cable or broadcast TV at the time. The Cheetah Girls 2 sequel was the most popular film of 2006 among many youth demographics. As for The Cheetah Girls: One World, it became the number-one-rated movie among children and tweens in its premiere week.

Almost two decades after its launch, The Cheetah Girls remains an important part of pop culture, fueled by nostalgia on social media and by its message about friendship and self-expression.

This announcement comes as part of the celebration of 2026, an important year for the Disney Channel’s anniversary of hits such as High School Musical and Hannah Montana, as well as the upcoming premieres of Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Camp Rock 3.

In addition, Disney announced the launch of the Worlds Collide Tour featuring characters from the Descendants, ZOMBIES, and Camp Rock franchises.

All three original Cheetah Girls movies are now available to stream on Disney+.
