TikToker Says Black Men Are Treated Like ‘Objects’ by Strangers Offering Money for Sex

A TikToker, Kylie Brewer, mentioned the growing number of Black men online who talk about their experiences being groped, harassed, and propositioned for sex. She believes this trend to be very dehumanizing and based on a centuries-old tradition of white people objectifying Black men.

According to Brewer, Black men had no other way but to go online to express the experiences they have of being touched inappropriately, harassed, and propositioned sexually. Her examples included cases when some older white woman would grope them, or a case when a white husband would come up with an offer to pay some money for him to sleep with his wife.

“A very dehumanizing and gross practice,” she argued, adding that there are many people in the comments saying how they wish that had happened to them.

“It’s genuinely part of the reason why people view people of color as objects,” she said. “White people in particular have always seen Black men as things that they can use at their disposal or at whatever whim that they have, that they can use Black men to sexually satisfy their desires.”

What is more, according to her, Black men are denied their autonomy and agency in these cases, and she encouraged those who did not believe her to look into TikTok for more content.

“If you don’t believe me, just check all the stitches, all the duets,” she said. “Just search up Black men being propositioned on TikTok, and you’ll hear all the stories of this happening.”

Moreover, as she said, the problem does not exist only in other countries. “It’s not just happening abroad,” Brewer said. “It’s happening at nightclubs across the U.S. every day.”

She concluded with the statement: “Keep your hands to yourself. Always ask for permission before you touch anyone. Thank you.”
