South African singer Tyla caught a lot of attention by making a straight-talking TikTok video about two awkward encounters with Rihanna. Internet users responded in varied ways to her confession.
In the video, seemingly drowsy, Tyla spoke about her encounters with the Barbadian pop artist a year earlier. The Barbadian pop star greeted her and immediately walked off.
“I met her last year, and she was cool. You know, I met her, but I think she was occupied cause she was like, I was like, I went up to her. I was like, oh, hey, you know, she was like, hey, um, um, my baby daddy’s calling me. And then she left, and I was like, ‘ Oh, maybe she was busy,’ she said.
She explained the incident made her feel awkward. “I felt awkward. I don’t know how to say hi if I feel like someone’s busy,” she said.
Furthermore, she described another encounter at the Met Gala last week, but decided not to approach the Barbadian artist due to prior events.
“I don’t wanna go up because I felt like she was busy. You know what I mean? And the last time she was busy,” Tyla stated. “When we do speak, if we do end up speaking ever, I want us to be like calm so we both can just, you know, vibe and talk nicely.”

The video led to online debates. Some defended Tyla, claiming they misunderstood the situation.
“If you hear the video, she says she met her last year, said hi, and she was cool but busy. Since they saw each other at the Met Gala a few days ago and she was busy, she just stood there,” one person explained.
Another individual disagreed with her timing and intentions. “That is why I hate her. She knows what she is doing by posting this. Rihanna and Rocky have problems,” the individual wrote.
One person knew what could happen because of it. “That is the internet for you. She posted it with good intentions, but the internet will make a mess out of it,” he wrote.
Tyla’s post received comments about double-standard issues. “I love Rihanna’s attitude. She has none and does whatever she wants. But if Nicki did this, you guys will be crying everywhere, saying she is bitter and jealous of the new girls,” a person wrote.
No response came from Rihanna regarding the video.
