A TikTok video reveals an encounter between a golf cart attendant and the male customers making crass, sexual comments. This example is illustrative of the kinds of dehumanizing remarks workers report hearing during their shifts.
In the TikTok video by user Feven Alle, the worker drives the cart while talking to some of the golfers who banter with her. During the video, she explains that they “are all just cheesing and everything,” then, “Yeah, look at him, cheesing and everything.”
Their talk is mostly crude. One of the golfers tells her, “We need a stripper pole out here right now.” When another asks if it is “a stripper pole?” the reply is just “No.” Then, the worker reacts: “Let’s be respectful a little bit, Bobby.”
As their interaction continues, they make fun of her appearance. “The old white men, uh huh,” says one of the golfers, then, “Love her. You too?” Another adds that “Not just white men” and “They love her.”
Then, they try to force her to bring them more drinks. “Shot o’clock,” “Shot o’clock,” and “Is it shot o’clock?” they demand. One of them claims she should “be trying to get motherfuckers drunk so she can take their money,” but she declines, saying, “I can do it sober too. They don’t gotta be drunk like you.” Then, she tells him point-blank: “You’re my victim. I don’t think you know you’re the next target,” earning a “Ha ha.”
The most obvious comment comes from the golfers who comment on her body, asking if her “nipples are getting hard.” She asks, “What am I what?” while the screen caption reads, “yapping abt my nipples being out.” Then, she names her offender: “That’s Bobby. That’s rude. You can’t say that.”
The worker sees her responses as payback for what they have said. “I’m about to tax you. Crazy,” she tells them, adding that “Yeah, you’re gonna get taxed like insanity.” When asked, “You stand up. You get anything out of these guys right here?” she analyzes the group: “Out of you, they’re. They’re nice. Out of. I’m gonna let them chill. But you. No, especially you.”
At the end of their chat, she steers them back to the drinks: “So who wants drinks? You just want to yap, or you want drinks?”
