White Woman Lists “3 Things White Parents Need to Teach Their Kids About Race”

Kylie Brewer published a video titled “3 things white parents need to teach their kids about race.” She explains three points she thinks all parents should share with their children.

In the video, she says that insulting a person for his/her skin color is completely wrong and should never be allowed.

“#1: It is never okay to insult somebody because of their skin color,” Kylie Brewer explains. “Kids are always going to say dumb shit, and they’re going to be rude to each other and bully each other, which is what adults need to correct them for. But you especially should point out, as they are children, it is never, ever, ever okay to insult someone or call them something because of the color of their skin.”

The next point is how children perceive the world around them.

“#2: white children do not experience the world in the same way that black and brown children do,” Brewer said. “Unfortunately, it is a reality that not every child will be treated equally. So teach your child to intervene instead of being a bystander when they see this kind of unequal treatment happening. Teach your kids to understand race and what it is instead of letting them figure it out for themselves and having to Google it when they’re 12. This is how white supremacy gets passed on from parent to child, whether intentionally or not.”

The third point is how parents talk about their history.

“And #3 be honest about American history. Don’t lie or sugarcoat or say ‘oh slavery was so long ago’ Because quite honestly, it was not. There are a lot of people with great-grandparents or even grandparents born into slavery or indentured servitude. Either way, it’s the same thing. So be honest and stop hiding history from your children. Bye!!” she said.
