A first-year student at Middle Tennessee State University who was arrested a few days ago in a domestic assault case was again arrested a few days later after being charged with violating an order of protection, according to police.
Kailyn Hasty was apprehended by a Murfreesboro police officer while driving a vehicle that did not stay within its lanes on South Rutherford Boulevard at 11:55 pm on August 31, says MTSU Sidelines, the student newspaper of the university. Hasty was a passenger, and police said the driver had an active order of protection against her. Hasty was charged with violating the order, and police booked her at 4:34 am into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
This arrest came shortly after a similar incident a few days earlier. The police were called to report a domestic assault on August 28 at an apartment complex on Lascassas Pike, says Larry Flowers, spokesperson for the department. It turned out that Hasty was the principal offender in the assault, and she was put under arrest.
On August 29, the day after Hasty’s first arrest, she was suspended from the MTSU cheer team, spirit program coordinator Brooke Legens said in a statement. Legens said Hasty is no longer in the program and does not represent it in any way, and added that what Hasty did does not represent the university or the Spirit Program. In its statement, the program reaffirms its stance against violence and intolerance.
Hasty, a graduate of Tullahoma High School in the spring, is currently out of custody, says Laura Kunce, public information officer of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
She has been accused but not yet convicted. Court dates for both cases are still unknown.
