A 24-year-old woman passed away in the hospital corridor due to receiving an oxygen mask that was not connected to any source, while the nurses brushed off her concerns as a panic attack.
According to The Sun, Clarissa Street, a graduate from the University of Manchester and from Rochdale, fell ill at home on August 14, 2024, after experiencing health problems for two days prior. She was rushed to Royal Oldham Hospital, where she was left to wait in the corridor rather than in a treatment room.
In spite of her low oxygen saturation and rapid heart rate, the medical professionals reportedly dismissed her symptoms and left her alone for more than an hour. Street was given an oxygen mask without any connection.
She died in the early hours of the following day. Her autopsy revealed that she died from a pulmonary embolism, which is a life-threatening blood clot in the lungs.
Her inquest is taking place in Rochdale Coroner’s Court.
