The internet is ablaze with reactions to a recent apology video from Lana Rhoades, who addressed the backlash she received for comments made on a podcast regarding Megan Thee Stallion. The controversy began when Rhoades, along with her co-hosts Olivia Davis and Alexa Adams, speculated about basketball player Torrey Craig’s relationship with Megan after he went public with the rapper.
During the podcast, Davis acknowledged that Craig dating Megan was “kind of a flex,” noting the rapper’s superstar status. However, Rhoades raised eyebrows when she commented that Megan wasn’t “the same type” as Craig’s previous partners, implying he typically dated blonde, white women. The remark drew significant criticism online, with many accusing Rhoades of perpetuating harmful stereotypes and undermining Megan.
The Apology Video
In response to the backlash, Rhoades took to social media to share a lengthy apology video. She clarified her comments, claiming they were misunderstood.
“This is the clip where I suppose we said what was just mentioned,” she began. Rhoades explained that her comments were meant to highlight a specific “look” shared by Craig’s previous partners, referring to them as “carbon copies of each other,” rather than making a broader statement about race or skin color. She also denied knowing at the time that Craig had a baby mama or the appearance of other women he had been linked to.
Rhoades went on to justify her initial concerns about Craig’s intentions with Megan, citing his previous behavior and the potential for financial or status-related benefits from dating the superstar. “I was just putting that out there so that she knew it,” Rhoades said, though she admitted her comments may have come across as judgmental.
In the video, Rhoades also defended Davis, explaining that her co-host’s inability to properly pronounce Megan’s name stemmed from her bilingual upbringing in a Ukrainian household, not from an attempt to throw shade at the rapper.
Social Media Reacts
Despite Rhoades’ attempts to clarify her remarks, social media users were quick to weigh in, many expressing skepticism about her sincerity.
One person mocked her explanation, writing, “Why is Willy Wonka gaslighting us?” Another user joked, “‘She grew up in a bilingual home’ SENT ME TO THE MOON!!!” Others called out contradictions in her statement, with one remarking, “Ho made a Tory Lanez joke but she was worried for Meg???”
Others criticized Rhoades’ attempts to explain her co-host’s mispronunciations, with a commenter pointing out, “I was born in another country, lived in my country till I was in the 3rd grade with a mother who speaks 3 languages. I speak 2, and somehow I can say Megan.”
Was the Apology Genuine?
The apology video has left fans divided. Some believe Rhoades’ explanation was a genuine attempt to address the controversy, while others argue it was a deflection to avoid further backlash.
As the debate rages on, it’s clear that social media is not quick to forget comments that appear to undermine or question someone as beloved as Megan Thee Stallion.
