A real-life shocking crime story from Colombia has elicited an unexpected response on social media, with some users wanting actress Aubrey Plaza to play Karen Julieth Ojeda Rodriguez, a 23-year-old woman who police say masterminded the targeted murders.

Rodriguez was arrested for her alleged involvement in several high-profile killings using her alias “La Muñeca,” which is Spanish for “The Doll,” including the assassination of her ex-boyfriend.

The Story Behind “The Doll”

Karen Julieth Ojeda Rodriguez was a woman who reached the pages of newspapers for allegedly commanding a group of hitmen at the orders of the Los de la M gang in the city of Barrancabermeja.

According to the police, Rodriguez had masterminded the murder of her ex-boyfriend, Deyvy Jesus, by calling him to a meeting under the pretext of sorting out an economic issue. When he arrived, he was ambushed by two men on motorcycles who shot him dead, reportedly on Rodriguez’s orders.

Rodriguez was arrested along with her alleged accomplices: Paula Valentina Joya Rueda, alias “Gorda Sicaria” (Fat Hitwoman), and a man identified only as “Leopoldo.” During the arrest, weapons were seized, including one revolver and one 9mm pistol, and the Police are now investigating their responsibility for other crimes.

Magdalena Medio Police Lieutenant Colonel Mauricio Herrera stated that the arrests brought “a period of calm” to the region, which has been plagued by violence attributed to criminal gangs. However, Colombia continues to grapple with a homicide epidemic, with a murder reported every three days in cities like Bucaramanga, according to the World Population Review.

Social Media’s “Fix Her” Obsession

While some have taken this gruesome case of “The Doll” as a somber reminder of the ongoing struggles that have haunted Colombia due to organized crime, others use social media platforms with a combination of dark humor and wrong fascination. On X (formerly known as Twitter), some of its users, albeit in jest, said Rodriguez’s criminal persona is something they can “fix.”

It has since become a common internet discussion, often used humorously in reference to morally questionable individuals, and has found its way into discussions about Rodriguez, prompting a wave of memes and posts ranging from sardonic to absurd.

The Aubrey Plaza Casting Debate

Separately, many users have drawn parallels between Rodriguez’s nickname, “The Doll,” and the dark, enigmatic roles often played by Aubrey Plaza. Known for her deadpan humor and portrayal of morally complex characters, Plaza has become the internet’s unlikely top pick to portray Rodriguez should her story ever be adapted into a movie or series.

Fans say Plaza’s ability to blend charm and menace makes her the perfect fit for such a character. Pictures and clips of Plaza from previous roles have been shared alongside photos of Rodriguez, with captions imagining Plaza as “The Doll” in a gritty biographical drama.

The suggestion has quickly gained momentum, with some hailing the casting idea as perfect, while others question the ethics of fictionalizing such a grim story so soon after its real-life events unfolded.

Whether Hollywood will ever take on Rodriguez’s story, or whether Aubrey Plaza would agree to such a controversial role, remains to be seen. For now, the debate illustrates in strange ways how social media intersects with real-world events, turning tragedy into spectacle.

Would Aubrey Plaza make for an interesting “La Muñeca”? Or is this another example of the internet completely blurring lines between what’s entertaining and what is real? Only time will tell.
