The woman, whose username is @anna.manocha, gestures as she narrates the experience. Going out to the Village, she terms it a humiliating experience for a person of color.
“I just got home from a night out in the West Village, aka the White Village, and I don’t know if this happens to any other people of color, but going to the West Village is such an incredibly humbling experience, like going to the bars and the clubs,” Anna says.
She adds that she didn’t choose the area and was there for a particular reason.
“Because tell me why I just spent two hours there for; I didn’t pick the location. It was like for a friend’s birthday party,” she adds.
Anna goes on to describe her encounter with men that night.
“But I got asked out by the ugliest white men to ever inhabit the earth, and what killed me as they’re interacting with me, it’s not like they’re shooting up,” Anna says.
The men approached her thinking she would take the compliment positively.
“They genuinely think, as a person of color, that this is the best I can do. They think that people of color are so ugly that being with them is the ultimate prize,” she says.
Anna narrates the assumption behind their behavior.
“I would rather be with the ugliest of white men than to be with a brown man or really any other man of color, and it is just like so shocking to me,” she adds.
She remembers one encounter at night where someone guessed her ethnicity and then said they would be a good couple.
“Like, I talked to a guy today, and he’s trying to guess my race for so long, which is their favorite move, and then at the end he was like I think we would be so good together; you are looking, and you genuinely think if we end up together, like I’m the lucky one,” she says.
She ends the video reflecting on this attitude.
“I wonder what it’s like to live in this level of delusion,” she concludes.
