A woman who says she viewed adult content daily from the age of 13 until marriage talks on TikTok about how the practice twisted her perception of marriage and how she is thankful to her faith in Jesus Christ for making her stop.
“I was addicted to p*rn since the age of 13, and I’m gonna tell you about how it ruined my conception of marriage,” Adria Kathleen says on one of her TikTok videos.
As she expects people not to take this too literally, she adds that some may think another word could be used instead of “addiction.”
“I know a lot of people. Like, what do you mean by addiction?” she said. “I was watching it every day as a 13-year-old kid and all the way until I, like, got married as an adult, which is crazy.”
According to Adria, before this experience, her intention was to keep herself from having sexual relations outside of marriage.
“I remember seeing the, like, perfect marriages and being like, oh, like, I’m gonna wait for marriage. I’m gonna keep myself holy and pure, and I’m gonna devote myself to the Lord. Like, that was just my nature,” Adria explains.
But as she got into the practice, the girl’s intentions completely shifted.
“And then after I saw p*rn, I was like, I need some. Like, I need to do that,” Kathleen explained. “And I was super young, and I didn’t lose my virginity until I was older. But it was like a need I had. But that need wasn’t there until I, you know, started watching that.”
In Kathleen’s opinion, watching adult content is similar to trying hard drugs.
“And the thing is, it was so addicting. It’s like crack. It would be like a 13-year-old trying crack and getting addicted to it,” she explains. “Like, it was. It was unfortunate, and I was a victim in that situation.”
Looking back now, Adria says she understands how much her daily habits shaped her choice of partners.
“But now, like, surviving and overcoming. I have seen how that influenced my behavior in romantic relationships and how I would settle for guys that were not ideal and did not love the Lord,” she said. “And, um, now I can reflect on that, and I don’t have. I wouldn’t have this clear head if I hadn’t have stopped using p*rn.”
Adria says that she managed to give it up in no small measure because of divine intervention, which she often mentions in most of her TikTok videos.
“Ultimately, the way I quit, I talk about it in a lot of my videos, is the way I quit was through the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ and Nazareth,” she said. “And I was able to invite him in, and, like, it was just like, I don’t know. I didn’t try to quit p*rn. It just stopped.”
It happened because I was no longer interested in adult content and focused on other things.
“I just stopped, like it. I didn’t think about it, because my mind was just on the cross, and that was one of the sins that just was gone,” she said.
Adria explained the process in the context of sanctification, a concept according to which Christians become holy in their lifetime.
“And I think that’s kind of how sanctification goes. Like, the more we focus on the Lord and read his word and let him develop us and sanctify us, the more things we’re gonna be delivered from,” she said.
She ends the video by referring to her other videos, where she talks about her practice and overcoming.
“I have a ton of videos on this, but, yeah, that’s my spiel,” Kathleen said.
