A woman who chronicles her dating life on TikTok said she cut a weekend visit short and sent a long-distance suitor back to San Francisco after he missed a fitness class she had paid for and went hours without answering her calls or texts.
The woman, who identified herself as Madeline, described the weekend in a video posted to the platform, opening with a summary of the outcome.
“Hi, guys. So, you know the guy that I thought could be my future husband and drove over 5 hours to spend the weekend with me and take me on another date? Well, I sent him home early. So, story time of what happened,” she said.
Madeline said the visit began Friday with plans for dinner at a restaurant where the man had said he made a reservation. She said she learned otherwise when he arrived to pick her up.
“He told me when he picked me up that he just figured that we would be able to get a table, but I was like, come on, man, it’s LA. You also lived here,” she said. “So we ended up having to wait over an hour for a table at the restaurant that he said he had a reservation at. So I’m a little annoyed at this point. But it’s okay. It wasn’t a deal breaker.”
The meal itself did not improve her mood, she said.
“We eventually got sat at the restaurant, we’re at dinner, and to be honest, he seemed very distracted, and he just didn’t really conversate very much. We really didn’t talk very much, and he just seemed tired,” she said. “I get it that he drove a long way, but his car drives for him. But anyway, dinner was okay, but he really just seemed somewhere else.”
The pair returned to her apartment afterward, where she said the evening ended abruptly. “So after dinner, it’s already late, so we go back to my place, and the minute he just sits down, he just crashes, he falls asleep. So I’m like, okay, weird. He’s probably just tired. Whatever,” she said.
The next morning brought a second surprise, she said. The two had loosely discussed playing tennis or hiking, and she had booked a Solidcore class for the afternoon.
“He wakes up and tells me, oh, actually, I made plans to hang out with my friends, cause he has friends in LA. Up until our workout class. And he didn’t tell me that. I was assuming that we were gonna spend the day together. And I tell him that,” she said. “I tell him I thought we were gonna be spending the day together. Obviously you said you were coming down to visit me. It’s okay to see friends. But he had told me that he was only coming to see me.”
She said the man responded, “I know, I know, but they really want to see me. I promise we’ll meet up at the workout class, and then you’ll have me for the rest of the evening.”
Madeline said she was too tired to argue. “I’m still half awake at this point, so I’m like, okay, whatever. I’m annoyed. But he already made plans, so he leaves and takes one of my favorite chocolate chip muffins from Whole Foods with him to go. And then I just spend the morning doing my own thing,” she said.
About two hours before the class, she said, she texted him the studio address and received no reply. She arrived at her usual time and began stretching at her machine.
“But as the minutes start dwindling down, I start thinking, oh my gosh, he’s not coming to the class. And lo and behold, class starts and he is not there and the door shuts,” she said. “So I’m like, whatever, he’s not gonna make it. I’m gonna have the best workout of my life. And at this point, he still had not responded to any of my messages. So I’m super annoyed. And you better believe I had the probably the best workout of my life. I just channeled all that annoyed energy into my solid core class. So I had a great workout without him.”
She said she had expected an apology waiting on her phone afterward.
“After the class, I was expecting to have a text from him saying, oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. Something happened. His car broke down, something. But there was nothing,” she said.
The cost of the missed class added to her frustration, she said, because she had already used her guest pass earlier in the month. “And I’m really annoyed at this point because I didn’t use my free buddy pass on him cause I never used it earlier this month, so I paid for his class, and he just didn’t show up. So that’s just a wasted class,” she said.
Her final message before the class, she said, read, “Are you here? Are you okay? Are you running late?” Two calls placed after she got home went straight to voicemail, she said, and she followed up with a text asking him to call her back.
“This guy does not call me back until an hour after the class had ended, and I’m already home,” she said. “He calls me back and doesn’t seem very apologetic and says, sorry, I was with my friends and wasn’t on my phone and I lost track of time.”
She said the man told her he checked his phone at 2:55 p.m. and realized he was running late.
“He tells me that he looked at his phone at 2:55 and realized, oh, my gosh, it’s a lot later than I thought it was. He lost track of time. And he said that he just assumed that he wouldn’t make it, so continue to hang out with his friends and didn’t text me,” she said. “And this isn’t like it was a last minute planned class. We had planned it a week in advance. He knew the time, and he didn’t feel the need to tell me.”
At that point, she said, she asked him to leave.
“So at this point, I am so over it. And I tell him I feel very disrespected, and that’s really inconsiderate. I don’t want you to stay at my place, and I want you to either go back to San Francisco or stay with your friends. I was so done. So annoyed,” she said.
She said an unavoidable conflict would have been different. “If it had been that something actually came up, then I would have been understanding. But he just lost track of time, and he prioritized hanging out with his guy friends over seeing me the weekend that he said was about me, and he would spend the weekend with me,” she said. “You can spend all the time with your guy friends. You can have all of them now, but you can’t have any of me now.”
The man pushed back, she said, calling the missed class “an honest mistake.”
“And then this guy gets a little fussy and says, oh, but, you know, it was just an honest mistake and everything. I don’t think so,” she said. “My future husband, the man that I am going to potentially marry, would never do that. And he would have good time management and prioritize me like he said he would this weekend. So I told him, I feel very disrespected. Also, you didn’t have the decency to text me back when you saw you’re going to be late and not tell me.”
She said the exchange ended shortly after. “So he gets all fussy and says, fine, whatever. I think you’re overreacting. I’m just gonna drive home. So I tell him, okay, have a nice drive. Bye,” she said.
Madeline defended her decision in the video and said she stood by it.
“Personally, I don’t think I’m overreacting. That was super disrespectful and he just seemed checked out and prioritizing other things. And that behavior is not behavior that I expect in my future husband. So he got sent home early,” she said. “I have not texted him since he left and he has not texted me. So I think we are done. And I’m fine with that.”
She also addressed viewers who had been skeptical of the relationship in earlier videos.
“I don’t want to hear the comments saying we told you so. It was too good to be true. I am willing to give people the benefit of the doubt until they disappoint me. And he, up until this point, he seemed great,” she said. “But again, I was still kind of weighing out, is he really the guy that I wanna be with? And his behavior this weekend showed me otherwise. And also, I still have people on my roster, so he’s not the only one.”
She said the disappointment was real but manageable. “Yes, I was really disappointed at the beginning and was sad, and I am still disappointed, but I just cannot have that. That’s so disrespectful and that’s not husband behavior,” she said.
Madeline said the video would be her last on the subject.
“So after this video, I will not be talking about him because I can’t get over him. If I continue to talk about him, I will talk about the lessons I learned or the things that I’m no longer going to be putting up with or expect from this experience. But he will no longer have a presence on my TikTok,” she said.
She added a parting assessment of his absence from the class. “But to be honest, I’m glad that he missed the class cause he does not deserve to be in the Holy Temple that solid core is,” she said.
Two loose ends remained, she said: the muffin and a piece of unassembled furniture the man had offered to help build using a drill he kept in his car.
“I’m honestly bummed that he took my last chocolate chip muffin from Whole Foods, and he was supposed to help me build a sideboard buffet table with a drill that he has in his car. So now I have to do that. That’s okay. I went and bought a drill today, and I’ll build it myself,” she said.
She said her attention had already turned elsewhere.
“So, sadly, the man that I thought could potentially be my future husband will not be my future husband. Which is okay. I have other people on my roster, one being a guy that is currently traveling in Copenhagen and FaceTimed me because he wanted to schedule and book a reservation for a date when he gets back,” she said. “So I have a man who’s already making plans to see me when he gets back from his vacation and took the time out of his day in Copenhagen to plan a date. We’ll see if that happens.”
Her plans for the rest of the day were simple, she said.
“But anyway, now I’m gonna go to Whole Foods, get that chocolate chip muffin that he took the last of, and have it for myself. And I’m going to build the credenza,” she said.
She closed with one more sign that the weekend was a loss.
“Also, I think I’m getting pink eye, which is just my body’s way of telling me this man, get rid of him. He’s not good for you. You’re getting pink eye when you’re around him anyway,” she said.
