GAYLE, a multiplatinum singer and songwriter, released a new single Friday, the piano ballad “loving you is,” which she describes as one of her most intensely emotional songs yet, and announced that her forthcoming album, “Observing Chaos,” will be released Sept. 18.
The single follows last month’s “junebug!,” which earned widespread editorial support including placement on Spotify’s New Music Friday, Apple Music’s New Music Daily and Amazon’s Breakthrough Pop playlists. Billboard declared it the perfect song that “captures the carefree chaos that kicks off summer.”
GAYLE said “loving you is” centers on learning to love yourself and deciding to no longer tolerate the emotional distress of a toxic relationship.
“I wrote ‘loving you is’ about coming to terms with the fact that I didn’t know how I deserved to be treated,” GAYLE said. “After taking five million steps back, I realized how frustrated I am for accepting behavior that no one should have to go through and I’ll never let that happen to me again!”
“You made me hate myself / so I could love us,” the Grammy nominee sings at the outset of the single, a palpable emotional release.
GAYLE wrote and produced “Observing Chaos” with collaborators, and the album finds her at her most open and honest, dissecting the positive and negative choices in life, falling in and out of love, trust, heartbreak, partying, and the mania that encompasses life between the ages of 17 and 21.
The singer, 22, is based in Nashville and has toured with multiplatinum artists including Taylor Swift, P!NK, Cyndi Lauper, Tate McRae, AJR and My Chemical Romance. She has spent the better part of the past few years finding her emotional center. Following the whirlwind that accompanied the outsize success of her anthem “abcdefu,” she took time to work on herself, her emotions and learn who she is as an adult, all topics she mines on the new LP.
Having recently launched a new fan club, the g spot, GAYLE plans to play the forthcoming album directly for her fans via a road trip that will include album listening sessions and exclusive experiences.
GAYLE garnered global attention with her bold music, and her breakout single “abcdefu” was certified double platinum, topped international charts and earned her a Grammy nomination for song of the year. Her EP “a study of the human experience volume one,” made with producers including Noah Conrad, Ryan Linvill and Pete Nappi, introduced her as a bold new voice in pop music, while its follow-up, “volume two,” delved deeper into themes of vulnerability and authenticity, with tracks like “god has a sense of humor” and “indieedgycool” highlighting her fearless songwriting approach.
In addition to her own work, GAYLE helped write and also performed “Butterflies,” a reimagined version of Crazy Town’s “Butterfly,” for the “Barbie” movie soundtrack album, produced by Mark Ronson. She has written for major artists including Kelly Clarkson and Roddy Ricch, and collaborated with artists such as Lauren Spencer-Smith, Em Beihold and blackbear. Her television appearances include “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”
Her accolades include being featured on Billboard’s “21 Under 21” list, appearing in Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood Impact Report for 2022, and being named a YouTube Artist on the Rise and an MTV Global Push Artist.
GAYLE has amassed a global audience of more than 2.5 million social media followers, 5 million monthly listeners across digital streaming platforms, 2.9 billion career streams and 9.7 billion YouTube views. In the last 30 days alone, she has earned more than 10 million streams across streaming platforms and 27 million YouTube views.
