A judge in Georgia ordered Anthony Edwards, the best basketball player of the Minnesota Timberwolves, to pay $3,222 per month for the maintenance of his one-year-old daughter, according to TMZ.
However, the order was placed despite Edwards signing a five-year, over-$200 million contract with the Timberwolves in 2023. In addition, court documents indicate that Ayesha Howard, the daughter’s mother, had a monthly income of $0.
According to the documents, the judge found that Howard failed to appear at trial and failed to present any evidence to support her claims. Additionally, the documents indicate that Edwards has been paying nearly $110,000 in child support, including a $20,000 initial payment and $5,000 per month from January 2025 until the trial.
Most of the controversy concerned where child support could be determined. Howard filed her claim initially in California, whereas Edwards filed it in Georgia.
According to Edwards, Howard had minimal connections to California and filed there to obtain a higher amount of child support.
The court in Georgia accepted Edwards’s arguments and ruled that child support would be determined in Georgia and that the monthly payment should be $3,222.
