A former behavioral health clinician at Contra Costa County has been indicted on seven felony charges for engaging in a sexual relationship with a teenage boy who was under her care as a client, authorities announced Wednesday.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed the indictment in Contra Costa County Superior Court against Sofia Ann-Buitron Drotts, 26, of San Francisco.
The charges include two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, two counts of oral copulation of a minor under 18 years old, one count of sexual penetration by a foreign object, two counts of transmitting harmful material to a minor, and one count of possession of child or youth pornography.
Sofia Drotts was employed as a behavioral health clinician at the John Davis Juvenile Detention Center in Martinez, where the boy, a minor whose identity is being withheld as John Doe, was assigned to her as a client. The two allegedly started having a sexual affair once he got out of detention, from April 1 until July 14, this year.
Detectives with Concord police received information about the sexual affair from a supervisor of the Probation Department in the county. Drotts was arrested on July 14 after an investigation and was referred to the district attorney’s office for filing charges about a week later.
Drotts’ arraignment date will be set at the Superior Court, where the charges against her will be read. She will be informed of the criminal charges against her. Should she plead not guilty, the case shall proceed to a preliminary hearing, where the judge shall determine whether it is ready for trial.
