A TikTok influencer is calling on men to stand up to allegations that seven former members of a Cornell University fraternity sexually assaulted a woman back in 2024, pointing out their failure to react online.
The video posted by the content creator under the handle @kachunkster criticizes men who post sports-related stories repeatedly on their Instagram feeds while ignoring what she terms the “real s***,” such as the rape allegations involving a group of seven former members of Chi Phi fraternity at Cornell University filed in a civil lawsuit last month.
“I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the Cornell rapists,” she said. “I don’t call them the Cornell 7 because they’re rapists, so we call them the Cornell r*pists.”
None of the seven has been criminally charged yet, and the allegations have not been proven in any court of law.
She says she doesn’t expect everyone to share news about this issue.
“But it’s like, I don’t expect everyone to use their social media to whatever, like repost stuff. I don’t think that’s incredibly important,” she said. “I think I personally choose to do that just because I feel very passionately about my opinions and I want people to know. And if they don’t agree with me, then they can get the f*** off my social media.”
However, she says her frustration mainly targets men.
“Um, however, I have noticed the lack of men who choose to speak up or even interact with posts and content about this,” she said. “I understand that as a man, maybe it’s incredibly uncomfortable to fully address the harsh reality of what a lot of men do and think and feel towards women.”
This is especially evident in the reaction she received to a story she posted on Instagram concerning the matter.
“But the fact that 45 women liked my Instagram story and two of those were straight men, two – not even men I’m close with,” she said. “I know that they’re good men, but two, it was only two.”
She, however, cautions that the figures cannot be taken as representative of all men.
“And I’m not saying that that’s incredibly indicative of every other man’s feelings or thoughts about this, but it’s like, show support. I don’t know. Show some support,” she said. “Like a f***ing Instagram story. I don’t know.”
She recognizes that liking a post is a minor step.
“I know it’s not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. I just think it’s telling a little bit. It’s a small thing, but like show some f***ing support,” she said. “Solidarity, stand up for women, stand up against these horrible men. At least let us know that you don’t agree with it. Like.”
@kachunkster This might get flagged but i think everyone appreciates the men who are actually speaking up right now. Even if it’s just to acknowledge and show support. #cornell
