Kai Cenat has accepted Aishah Sofey into Streamer University after she left behind OnlyFans to pursue her streaming career, reversing an earlier stance from Cenat that OnlyFans creators were not welcome at the event. Sofey discussed her acceptance in an exclusive interview with Where Is The Buzz.
Sofey said she never spoke directly with Cenat about her acceptance and did not expect to see her name announced.
“I still haven’t met or spoke with Kai, there was no direct conversations for my acceptance,” Sofey said. “I had absolutely no idea and didn’t expect my name to be on the board at all.”
She said she believes her content, while hosted on OnlyFans, differs from the platform’s stereotypical image.
“Only fans is a broad platform with many types of content. One shoe does not fit all,” Sofey said. “There are people who make explicit content and there are people who bake cookies and play video games, despite popular belief, I fall between somewhere that allows me to branch out beyond a stereotypical ‘OF creator.'”
“Due to that my content wouldn’t be out of place in something like a bikini magazine,” Sofey said. “Ever since getting on the only fans platform I have created strict boundaries that I’ve never crossed despite many trying to persuade me otherwise in hopes that I could branch off into a true content creator eventually.”
Sofey said she believes a background check factored into her selection.
“I believe I was considered and chosen because after their thorough background check it was clear that I am a good fit and don’t fall into the traditional only fans model stigma,” she said. “Although I am one of the biggest only fans creators, I am also one of the safest in terms of content.”
Sofey had reportedly said she would step away from OnlyFans content if accepted into the program. She said that transition has already been underway.
“I’ve been actively taking steps to stop making that kind of content for years now even before knowing streamer university was happening again,” she said. “Being accepted, being recognized, and being supported only makes that transition a million times easier and I hope I can be the pioneer for so many other women like me who want to leave that negative stigma and life behind.”
The Streamer University roster includes Pokimane, Cinna and T-Pain as professors and club directors, along with fellow creators DreamDoll, Skai Jackson and Sketch as attendees. Sofey singled out several people she is looking forward to learning from and meeting.
“The lineup for the professors and club directors is packed with insanely talented and experienced people, I’m feeling so blessed and excited to be able to learn from them directly,” Sofey said. “I am especially excited to learn from Pokimane because she has been such a huge inspiration to me throughout my whole career, I’ve always looked up to her and hoped I could be a successful female streamer like her.”
“I am also really excited to learn from Yonna, I have only found her recently but she is also very inspiring in the sense that she proves there is still space for female streamers in the industry right now and she really seems to be 110% percent herself at all times which gives me confidence to do the same during my streams,” she said. “Lastly, I just learned who TheSushiDragon is but I am in desperate need of help with tech so I’m definitely locking in for his classes.”
“As far as students, I am really excited to be classmates with Sketch, Benji, Ellysa, and Yugi,” Sofey said. “They all seem amazing with energy and I tend to get along well with people like that, but I can’t wait to meet all of the students and be in this together.”
Sofey’s acceptance has drawn mixed reactions online, with some framing it as a barrier broken and others arguing it lowers the event’s standards. Sofey pushed back on the criticism.
“I believe Streamer University is the most sought after opportunity that exists for streamers right now, the fact that I got accepted doesn’t change that,” she said. “The value in this is unparalleled and anyone saying the representation is cheapened doesn’t genuinely mean it because if their name was on the board, they would still go.”
She said no students have withdrawn from the program over her inclusion.
“There hasn’t been one student that has declined or dropped out because my name was on the board, but I have had classmates reaching out congratulating me,” Sofey said. “People have a lot to say when they are outside looking in. I simply have to go above and beyond to prove that I am deserving of this opportunity.”
Asked what she hopes to gain from the experience, Sofey said she is approaching it with an open mind.
“I hope to build confidence and respect with my fanbase as well as other streamers that don’t believe that I’m serious about this opportunity,” she said. “I want to prove that I’m willing to go to any extent to make this work, and show who I really am. I can’t put my finger on one specific thing I’m hoping to learn, because I’m currently an empty cup that needs to be filled with all the knowledge.”
