Angela Lee, a star in ONE Championship, has announced her retirement from mixed martial arts.
During ONE Fight Night 14 in Singapore on Friday, Lee announced her retirement plans, resulting in her vacating the ONE atomweight belt.
“I’m here today to officially announce my retirement,” Lee said. “It has been an incredible eight years. I just want to say thank you to the fans, to ONE Championship, to Chatri (Sityodtong), to my teams, and to just everyone. There have been so many battles in and out of the cage.”
Lee also shared encouraging words with her peers during her retirement speech.
“The last thing I want to say is this, to the fighters and to everyone out there watching right now. The greatest battle that we’ll ever face won’t be with an opponent standing in front of us. The greatest battle will be within ourselves. We all go through struggles, but we all fight. Each day, we’re victorious when we choose to rise up in the face of adversity. So thank you guys so much. I love you. Thank you.”
Lee finishes her professional MMA career with a record of 11-3, having competed exclusively in the ONE organization.
In her most recent bout, she suffered a defeat against Xiong Jing Nan during her second try at claiming the ONE women’s strawweight championship.
In 2016, at the age of 19, Lee achieved the title of the youngest MMA world champion, signifying her rise to fame in the world of MMA.
Lee has recently established Fightstory, an organization with the goal of providing assistance to combat sports athletes.
Angela Lee recently disclosed that her sister, Victoria Lee, passed away on December 26, 2022, due to suicide.
