Following the success of its celebrated season one finale, Apple TV+ has officially announced the renewal of “The Buccaneers” for a highly anticipated second season. The drama, inspired by Edith Wharton’s unfinished final novel of the same name, is a production by The Forge and has garnered critical acclaim.

The series, starring Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse, Christina Hendricks, and Mia Threapleton, weaves a compelling narrative set in the 1870s London season. As a group of vibrant American girls disrupts the traditional London scene, seeking more than just husbands and titles, “The Buccaneers” explores a clash of cultures and traditions with a modern twist.

Since its global premiere on November 8th, the show has been praised for its “lavish period drama” that feels both “fresh and modern.” As each episode unfolded week by week, audiences were captivated by the irreverence and wit of the characters, leading to a surge in global viewership.

Creator Katherine Jakeways expressed her thrill at the audience’s love for the characters and is excited to delve into the further adventures of this “smart, joyful, messy sisterhood.” The renewal promises to explore new territories, continuing the story that has left audiences eager for more.

Jay Hunt, creative director, Europe, Apple TV+, emphasized the charm of “The Buccaneers” and the delight in working with Katherine Jakeways and The Forge for the next chapter in Nan and her friends’ adventures.

The ensemble cast, which includes rising stars and seasoned actors, has been a key element in the series’ success. The blend of 1870s English aristocracy with a modern soundtrack featuring songs from today’s top female performers has contributed to the show’s unique appeal.

“The Buccaneers” is not only a visual delight but a music-driven experience, featuring tracks from artists like Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers, Bikini Kill, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Angel Olsen, Brandi Carlile, and more. The series showcases a blend of original and contemporary music, adding a dynamic layer to the storytelling.

Season one was directed by BAFTA Award winner Susanna White and written by Katherine Jakeways. Executive producers include Beth Willis and Jakeways, with The Forge Entertainment producing the series for Apple TV+. With the renewal, fans can look forward to the continuation of the vibrant and captivating world of “The Buccaneers” on Apple TV+.
