Crunchyroll Secures Theatrical Rights for “GREAT PRETENDER razbliuto” Film

Crunchyroll, the premier streaming platform for anime, has announced its acquisition of the theatrical rights for the highly anticipated anime film “GREAT PRETENDER razbliuto.” In collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Crunchyroll will present the film in select theaters across the United States for a special two-day event on January 9 and 10.

“GREAT PRETENDER razbliuto” is a significant addition to the renowned GREAT PRETENDER anime series, which garnered critical acclaim upon its debut in 2020. Serving as the series’ first feature film, the standalone story revolves around Dorothy, a self-proclaimed genius con artist known for targeting other con artists. As she navigates through Asia, Dorothy finds herself confronting an unexpected threat in this thrilling and entertaining cinematic adventure.

Directed by Hiro Kaburagi, who also handles character design, and featuring animation production by the esteemed WIT Studio (known for “Attack on Titan” Seasons 1-3 and “Vinland Saga” Season 1), the film promises to deliver the same level of creativity and excitement as its predecessor. Hitoshi Ito, the producer of “MIRAI” and “Star Wars: Visions – The Ninth Jedi,” leads the film’s production, with script supervision by Ryota Kosawa (“Always: Sunset on Third Street,” “Air Bound”).

Three years after WIT Studio captivated audiences with the ingenious scenarios of the “GREAT PRETENDER” series, Dorothy, the self-proclaimed genius con artist, makes a riveting return. Believed to be defeated by the Shanghai Longu Bang and presumed dead, Dorothy resurfaces in a small seaside village. Pursued by the underworld of Taipei, she heads to Kyoto, unraveling a tale of suspense and intrigue.
