Callina Liang’s Chun-Li Breaks the Internet in the First Ever Playable ‘Street Fighter’ Trailer

On Tuesday, the global World Warrior Tour launched the film, beginning with a first preview shown on the Shinjuku Yunika Vision screens in Tokyo. Street Fighter already drew strong reactions from online users after the first trailer appeared.

Discussion around the trailer was centered mostly on Callina Liang portraying Chun-Li. The trailer showed Liang in Chun-Li’s blue suit with buns, along with several shots of her worn out and doing blue-lit combat moves. The trailer also included a short, unrelated clip of a woman in underwear near a fireplace.

Among those present at the screening are the film’s stars: Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Liang, and Jason Momoa, as well as local actor Hirooki Goto, Japanese voice actress Eiko Kano, director Kitao Sakurai, and game director Takayuki Nakayama.

To celebrate the Japanese release, the studios unveiled the first playable, full-length movie trailer on YouTube, inviting viewers worldwide to fight through it as they watch.

The plot synopsis follows estranged street fighters Ryu (Koji) and Ken Masters (Centineo), who are drawn back into fighting when the enigmatic Chun-Li (Liang) invites them to the upcoming World Warrior Tournament. According to the studios, it will be a brutal showdown between fists, fate, and fury. A fatal conspiracy drives the conflict, forcing the two to confront not only each other but also the demons of their past.

Kitao Sakurai directs the adaptation of the arcade game, bringing its Hadoukens, roundhouses, and iconic characters to the big screen.

Street Fighter is produced by Paramount Pictures and Legendary Pictures in association with Capcom and is a Legendary Pictures production. The executive producers of the film are JJ Hook, Jay Ashenfelter, Kenzo Tsujimoto, and Haruhiro Tsujimoto. Producers are Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Nakayama, and Stefan Makhoul. Dalan Musson and Gary Dauberman wrote the story; T.J. Fixman and Sakurai wrote the screenplay, inspired by a Capcom video game.

Also among the cast are Joe Anoai as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, and Momoa as Blanka.

Street Fighter premieres in theaters only on October 16, 2026.
