Amazon MGM Studios has acquired the global rights to the feature-length documentary “I Am: Celine Dion.” Irene Taylor, an Oscar-nominated director, directs this intimate look into Celine Dion’s life and career.
The documentary, created by Sony Music Vision in conjunction with Sony Music Entertainment Canada and Vermilion Films, takes viewers on an emotional journey through Celine’s world. It reveals a key period in her life and provides an unusual peek into the megastar’s private life, tracking her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) and the extent to which she has gone to keep performing for her dedicated fans.
“I Am Celine Dion” was filmed over a year and showcases the global superstar’s fortitude as she navigates her path to live an open and true life amid illness. Celine Dion discusses how she discovered and managed her disease, highlighting her desire to raise awareness about the little-known Stiff Person Syndrome.
The documentary, which will be available on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories around the world, demonstrates Dion’s dedication to her fans. Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon MGM Studios, characterizes it as a “raw, intimate portrayal” of a watershed moment in Dion’s personal and professional life.
Celine Dion, reflecting on her difficult path, says, “This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not letting it define me.” She discusses her goal for recording this aspect of her life to raise awareness and encourage others with similar problems.
The production is directed by Irene Taylor, an Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker known for her groundbreaking work. Her previous works, like “Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements” and “Leave No Trace: A Hidden History of the Boy Scouts,” demonstrate her ability to weave fascinating stories.
Celine Dion’s extraordinary four-decade career has seen her sell over 250 million records and receive several accolades, including five Grammys and two Academy Awards. Despite health setbacks, such as the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency and the Courage World Tour, Dion remains a dominant figure in the industry.
The documentary, produced by Irene Taylor, Stacy Lorts, and Julie Begey Seureau for Vermilion Films and Tom Mackay for Sony Music Vision, promises to be both insightful and poignant. Executive producers Dave Platel and Denis Savage, as well as others from Les Productions Feeling and Sony Music Entertainment Canada, helped bring Dion’s story to life on screen.
