An investigator with the Department of Homeland Security is under scrutiny amid allegations that she relied on sugar daddies to support her lifestyle. That information was published by The Daily Mail on Wednesday.

According to the report, Julia Varvaro, 29, deputy assistant secretary for counterterrorism, is the subject of a complaint filed with the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General by an individual known only as Robert B. Robert stated that he gave about $40,000 to Varvaro during a three-month relationship.

The two reportedly met through the dating website Hinge, where she had maintained a profile using the pseudonym “Alessia” on a sugar daddy website called Seeking. The report claims that she was using the same picture on her profile as she had posted on Instagram.

“We were together in an exclusive relationship. We went on vacation. I don’t know what’s the problem with that,” Varvaro said in an interview with The Mail.

Robert B. also alleged that the two smoked marijuana together, an act that Varvaro denied.

Further, the report claims that Varvaro had admitted to him that the sugar daddies had helped pay her way through college, and that the total value of the jewelry she wore was $40,000, all of it from her sugar daddies.

“I did not want a sugar daddy/prostitution relationship, after spending $30,000-$40,000 for vacations, Cartier jewelry, expensive handbags, and various shopping trips,” Robert said in his complaint.

Robert believes that her financial status is a matter of national security. “I believe that she’s under financial stress and that her actions pose a security risk,” he said.
