Dr. Cheyenne Bryant has something to say about what she sees as one of the most detrimental trends in Black culture: Black people trying to cancel Black people.

While being interviewed by The Neighborhood Talk recently, Dr. Bryant was asked what she most wishes would stop happening by 202,6 and the mental health professional answered without skipping a beat:

“Black people trying to cancel Black people: I think that is disgusting. I think it’s sick. I think that is just a representation of jealousy and enviousness,” said Dr. Bryant.

Framing the problem in spiritual and community terms, Dr. Bryant suggested that the trend goes against religious teaching and further divides the Black community.

“I think it is, for folks who believe in God, it’s not Christ-like. I think it creates a deeper division between us.”

Dr. Bryant expressed the wish for us to direct our energy towards larger causes, because it would benefit us more:

“Those bigger things that we can get together and cancel: that can benefit us collectively, and those things are not each other.”

Bryant cited the continued success of singer Chris Brown, who, despite years of criticism and calls for him to be canceled because of the domestic violence allegations he faced in the past, still has a booming career:

“Even with them trying to cancel everybody: Chris Brown’s one of ’em. Didn’t work… My boy’s selling out tours. He done got his masters, his doctorates. He’s spending time with his kids and his family. He’s living.”

Dr. Bryant finished by emphasizing that grace is something we all deserve:

“He deserves grace, and everybody does.”
