Midnight Generation, the Mexican electro funk powerhouse known for their infectious grooves and genre bending energy, is going global. With the launch of their TENDER LOVE WORLD TOUR, the band is stepping onto the international stage in a big way, headlining venues from Amsterdam to Los Angeles with stops at some of the world’s most celebrated festivals including Lollapalooza (Berlin, Paris, Chicago), Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits.
At the heart of the tour is Tender Love, Midnight Generation’s latest studio album. It is a lush, nostalgic trip through disco, funk, and synth pop that pays homage to legends like Prince and Chic while carving out something entirely new. Frontman and multi-instrumentalist Fernando Mares says the energy onstage is electric, fueled by both the music and the audience.
“The truth is that we enjoy different songs during the shows,” Mares tells us. “There is always something new in every show. Of course, ‘Don’t Wait Up’ is a song that people go crazy for.”
That fan-favorite anthem has taken on a life of its own, bolstered by a black and white music video directed by Arre Productora that captures the pulse of Mexico City and the magnetic energy that has helped catapult the band onto the global scene.
From Chihuahua to the World
Midnight Generation began in the northern Mexican city of Chihuahua, and their rise has been meteoric. The five piece Fernando Mares, Luis Carlos “Bica” Valderrama, Carlos Amaya, Samuel Márquez, and newest member Diego Bustillos first found a following with their distinctive analog-meets-modern production style. Fusing French Touch aesthetics with Latin soul and American funk, they have built a global fanbase with millions of streams and a high voltage live show.
Their new world tour, produced by Live Nation, is the largest in the band’s history and includes headline performances and major festival slots across Europe, North America, and the UK. The run began on July 9 at Amsterdam’s Paradiso and will wrap October 26 at Miami’s The Ground at Club Space.
The Ritual Before the Groove
Before stepping into the spotlight each night, Mares says the band takes a quiet moment to reconnect.
“We talk to each other, convince each other of how lucky we are to play the music we love so much, and prepare ourselves mentally to always play very well,” he shares.
It’s a grounding ritual in a whirlwind tour schedule that includes dozens of cities, long travel days, and a setlist that’s constantly evolving, sometimes painfully so.
“It is very difficult to choose the setlist!” Mares admits. “There is always a song that is requested that we don’t play.”
Dream Collaborators and Live Energy
As their international profile grows, Midnight Generation is dreaming even bigger. When asked who they would love to bring on tour as a guest, Mares doesn’t hesitate to name the bands that have helped shape their stage presence.
“There are so many artists we admire, but if we could bring someone out, it would probably be someone who inspires our live energy. Maybe someone like Jungle or Parcels. We love the way they bring funk and groove to the stage, and it would be incredible to create a moment like that together.”
And moments are what this tour promises. Each city, each night, and each crowd bring something different to the table. With a fresh batch of songs like “Energy” and “Teacher” (featuring Zimmer90), Tender Love has become a living, breathing showpiece of the band’s evolution.
As the TENDER LOVE WORLD TOUR continues to unfold across continents, it’s clear that Midnight Generation is not just exporting music. They are exporting movement, rhythm, and an irresistible invitation to dance.
