A Florida woman is now facing additional criminal charges following allegations that she attempted to smuggle cocaine into a county jail by concealing it on her body.

Reagan Cox, aged 30, was apprehended on Saturday, June 27th, in Brevard County, following an alleged attempt to resist arrest during a routine traffic stop, as per inmate records and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Ms Cox was processed at the Brevard County Jail, where she was screened with a body scanner. Abnormalities were detected in the lower part of her body, which the investigation team described as the “jail purse area”.

Corrections officers took Ms Cox to a change room, where an intensive search of her person would be conducted.

It was reported that the woman attempted to cover her buttocks with her hand, but when the corrections officers removed her hand, a baggy containing 3.8 grams of cocaine fell to the floor, as per the statement.

According to the officials, Cox claimed ignorance regarding the drugs, claiming that cocaine could have been planted during an intimate act.

Cox was now additionally charged with the introduction of contraband into a detention facility.

Sheriff’s Office took a lighthearted stance on the matter on its Facebook page, joking: “You really just can’t make this stuff up… butt you sure can try as this one puts the ole … ‘those are not my pants’ excuse to shame!!”

The statement went: “There’s just not much else to say about this one, folks, other than Cox received an additional charge for Introduction of Contraband into a Detention Facility for bringing cocaine into the jail facility!! Folks, if not realizing that someone left cocaine in your ‘Jail Purse,’ is not a good enough reminder to not do drugs, then I don’t know what is!!”

It’s unknown whether additional criminal penalties will be imposed on the woman, whose online inmate records show she was already released from custody the same day. It’s unclear whether the woman has pleaded guilty and hired a defense lawyer yet.
