HBO has renewed the It: Welcome to Derry horror series for a second season. Set in the 1930s, the series follows a gang of bank robbers who suffer gruesome deaths in the cursed city of Derry, Maine.
Brad Caleb Kane is the new showrunner for the upcoming second season of the series, announced HBO. Andy and Barbara Muschietti executive produce the series, and HBO and Warner Bros. Television produce it.
In the second season, which will take place in 1935, viewers will learn about the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of robbers who stop in Derry to get ammunition. The first season will have eight episodes and will stream on HBO Max.
Since its release, the series has been one of the four most-watched premieres on HBO Max worldwide, according to HBO. The premiere date for the second season has not been revealed yet.
“We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of HBO Max original programming. She said the new season would deepen “the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”
Clancy Collins White, president of creative affairs at Warner Bros. Television, said the series would continue attracting viewers with a spine-chilling journey into the 1930s.
“We look forward to bringing fans back to the town of Derry to experience the next chapter and uncover even more of what lies beneath the surface,” Collins White said.
The Muschiettis, the founders of Double Dream production company, called the assignment a privilege and thanked HBO and Warner Bros. Television for their cooperation.
“Boy do we love our jobs!” the brothers said in a joint statement.
The series is inspired by Stephen King’s 1986 novel It and continues the story that was begun in the films It and It Chapter Two by Andy Muschietti. The first season received positive reviews from critics. For example, Variety called it a sophisticated piece of psychological horror, while USA Today described it as gripping. The New York Times praised Andy Muschietti’s direction for creating panic and terror.
Executive producers include Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, Brad Caleb Kane, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Dhana Gilbert.

I make over $220 an hour while working from home and looking after my two kids. I was hesitant at first, but when my friend, who earns more than $35,000 a month, encouraged me to try it, I went for it. It’s been amazing! I have more time and money than I ever thought possible. Want to see how?
