HIDIVE, AMC Networks’ streaming service, has recently added a thrilling new original anime to its Spring 2024 lineup, revealing “Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night” as an exclusive simulcast series. Set against the lively backdrop of Central Tokyo’s Shibuya City, this slice-of-life, coming-of-age ensemble drama aims to fascinate fans with its original story and engaging cast of characters.

HIDIVE will launch the first two episodes of “Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night” on March 29th, marking the start of what is expected to be a remarkable addition to the streaming platform’s schedule.

“We’re delighted to add ‘Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night’ to HIDIVE’s Spring 2024 line-up of exclusive simulcast series,” expressed John Ledford, President of HIDIVE. “With animation by Doga Kobo, the studio behind 2023’s global smash hit ‘Oshi no Ko,’ this original coming-of-age ensemble drama is sure to be one of the top new series of the year. Fans do not want to miss a single episode of ‘Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night!'”

Shibuya City is more than just a setting; it is a character in its own right, brimming with the vitality of Japanese teenage culture. Against this backdrop, four young women who feel themselves slightly beyond the mainstream—illustrator Mahiru Kozuki, former idol Kano Yamanouchi, Vtuber Kiui Watase, and composer Mei Kim Anouk Takanashi—form the anonymous artist group JELEE. Their voyage through Shibuya’s crowded streets tackles issues of identity, community, and the pursuit of artistic expression.

Doga Kobo’s 50th-anniversary film “Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night” was directed by Ryohei Takeshita and written by Yūki Yaku. Junichiro Taniguchi’s character designs and Masaru Yokoyama’s music promise to augment the watching experience. Miku Itou stars as Mahiru Kozuki, Rie Takahashi plays Kano Yamanouchi, Miyu Tomita plays Kiui Watase, and Miyuri Shimabukuro plays Mei Kim Anouk Takanashi.

Kodansha plans to serialize the manga adaptation of “Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night” in its “Magazine Pocket” manga app concurrently with the anime version, providing readers with an additional chance to explore the series’ world.
