HBO has ignited a firestorm of excitement with the news that its hit drama series HOUSE OF THE DRAGON has been renewed for a third season, even before the highly anticipated premiere of season 2. The announcement fuels the flames of anticipation for the show’s return this Sunday, June 16th (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and HBO Max.
Drawing inspiration from George R.R. Martin’s expansive history “Fire & Blood,” HOUSE OF THE DRAGON transports viewers 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” chronicling the rise and fall of House Targaryen. Season 2 boasts the return of fan favorites like Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and Rhys Ifans, while welcoming new faces such as Abubakar Salim and Tom Glynn-Carney to the Targaryen court.
Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, expressed her enthusiastic support for the series. “George R.R. Martin, Ryan Condal, and the entire team behind HOUSE OF THE DRAGON have truly delivered a phenomenal second season,” Orsi said. “We’re in awe of the immense effort poured into creating such a spectacular season, one that rivals its epic scope with its emotional depth. We’re thrilled to continue the saga of House Targaryen and witness this team’s brilliance shine even brighter in season three.”
Even before its premiere, season 2 of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON has already captured the hearts and minds of critics.Reviewers have praised the show for its “breathlessly exciting and gripping tale” (TheWrap), its ability to recapture the magic of “Game of Thrones’ golden age” (GQ), and its position as a must-watch summer drama. Esquire has hailed it as “the biggest show of the summer,” while TV Guide has lauded the series as “the grandest TV available,” and Collider declared it “the best fantasy television show of the decade.”
With a guaranteed future and critical acclaim already secured, HOUSE OF THE DRAGON is poised to continue its dominance as a must-watch summer drama. Buckle up, fire-breathers – the Targaryen saga is only just beginning to heat up.
