Brittany Kittrell, 34, died in the hospital four days after being held at the Durham County jail.

She was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office that did not describe her symptoms or injuries. The medical examiner are still trying to find her cause of death.

Kittrell was arrested and facing charges for breaking and entering to terrorize or injure, robbery with a dangerous weapon, common law false imprisonment and felony possession of cocaine, the release stated.

While Kittrell was in jail, she was in quarantine in the classification area of the jail and would have to remain there for a total of 14 days before she was transferred, which could cause her being exposed to COVID-19.

Brittany Kittrell bail was set at $5,000. According to BYP 100 organization, Brittany Kittrell becomes the 10th Black person to die in custody of Durham County Jail in just 8 years.
