“I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily,” Khalid said in a statement before the concert. “I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me.”
I can’t tell you what it means for El Paso to have @thegreatkhalid here. He was amazing tonight. Giving so much of his time and talent and compassion to families who’ve been through so much. Bringing power and joy to the people of El Paso and Juarez. pic.twitter.com/SuwitzydPz

Khalid moved to El Paso when he was a senior in high school, flourished here, and said later “I didn’t feel like I had a home until I moved to El Paso.” He chose to embrace El Paso and has now come back to help and to celebrate El Paso.
On August 3rd, El Paso was attacked for who we are. Khalid is showing that who we are a people who embrace and celebrate our differences as well as our fierce pride as Americans — might hold the answer to how this divided country can come together again.
Beto also took time to thank Khalid for his efforts.
El Paso has restored our faith in humanity—and shown this country that we will not be defined by an act of terror, but by the way our community of immigrants overcame it.
