Netflix has announced its latest sports documentary series, focusing on the life and legacy of legendary boxer and cultural icon Mike Tyson. The three-part series, set to premiere in 2024, will delve into the highs and lows of Tyson’s extraordinary journey, offering an unfiltered look at the man who became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at just 20 years old.

The series, produced by EverWonder Studio, DLP Media Group, and Five All In The Fifth, will comprise three 60-minute episodes directed by acclaimed filmmaker Floyd Russ, known for Netflix hits like Untold: Malice at the Palace and American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing. Executive producers include Ian Orefice, Jim Gray, Michael Hughes, Greg C. Lake, and Douglas Banker.

From Tyson’s meteoric rise as the “Baddest Man on the Planet” to his well-documented struggles—including incarceration, financial troubles, and controversies both in and out of the ring—the documentary aims to explore the full spectrum of Tyson’s life. It also chronicles his eventual redemption and enduring influence across generations.

“Having an opportunity to share my story through the reflective lens of my growth and maturity in a multi-part documentary on Netflix will be a challenging journey, yet a very welcoming one,” said Tyson in a statement. “Most people are too scared to look at their lives objectively, wanting to paint themselves as the hero of their own story. But if we are truly objective, we know we can never be the hero in our own story. We have to be able to face the man in the mirror, taking the good with the bad to give a full account of our contributions in this life. Netflix is the perfect platform to tell my story because of their global reach.”

The announcement comes on the heels of the record-breaking mega-event Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, which became the most-streamed global sporting event in history. The event further cemented Tyson’s enduring appeal and showcased his ability to captivate fans across generations.

This documentary joins Netflix’s expanding portfolio of sports programming, including critically acclaimed titles such as Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Full Swing, and Quarterback. The platform has become a premier destination for sports storytelling, with partnerships spanning major leagues like the NFL, NBA, FIFA, and WWE.
