Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Natasha Bedingfield has just dropped her new single “Dot Dot Dot” on Friday. This is Bedingfield’s first new solo music release in several years and marks the beginning of a promising new chapter in her career.

It has been over 20 years since Bedingfield made her big debut with the album “Unwritten.” However, Bedingfield’s early music has returned to the spotlight. The artist now has over 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with 70% aged 18 to 34. “Unwritten” alone has nearly two billion streams, while Bedingfield’s hit “These Words” and “Pocketful of Sunshine” continue to find new fans.

“Many times, when a hit comes from 20 years ago, people think that’s the peak,” Bedingfield explains. “I never felt I reached it. In the shows I’m doing now, I’m starting to feel like I am getting there. It makes me emotional that people still discover and play my old songs, but I’d also love to share new music.”

In recent years, Bedingfield has headlined festivals and played shows worldwide while writing and producing on the go.

“Dot Dot Dot” was written in collaboration with indie songwriter Brett Hitte, formerly of Frenship. The artists met at the professional hockey player’s house, where the song originated from their first writing session.

“That song feels like a true story for both of us about life in the music world,” Bedingfield says. “Being at a friend who’s an athlete’s house felt like parallels to being in a ring, getting knocked down and asking ‘Why should I keep going?’ And then you get back up because people need art. We turn hard times into art.”

“Dot Dot Dot” is like a reply to “Unwritten” for Bedingfield. It represents a different side of life – a side that leaves behind the uncertain future and focuses on someone who has been knocked down but still went on. The single combines alt-pop synths and a drum loop with a simple guitar line, delivering the catchy melodies Bedingfield’s fans know while also featuring heavy, layered production.

The single follows a period of personal and professional changes for Bedingfield. She left the major labels almost ten years ago, gave birth to her son, and continued to write, record, and tour as her old music found new life with her worldwide fanbase. Songwriting has remained central to Bedingfield’s life.

Social media has helped Bedingfield connect with her growing global fan base. Her music has recently gained new visibility through fan moments and athlete uses, including the NBA champion New York Knicks and English club Burnley, a viral remix by the producer Badger, and DJ sets by Paris Hilton and The Chainsmokers at some major festivals.

“Dot Dot Dot” comes more than 20 years after Bedingfield captured the hope of an unwritten future. As Bedingfield enters a new chapter on her own terms, she still believes in what has always kept her going through every chapter: anything can happen.
