British singer and songwriter Paris Paloma has dropped a new song titled “I Cry In Front Of Paintings”. This is one of the upcoming singles from her sophomore album titled “The Fatal Flaw,” set to release on September 4 via Nettwerk Music Group.
This is the second single from her album, following her previous release, “Pre Raphaelite”.
It highlights Paloma’s fascination with art, mythology, and nature.
In a statement describing the song, the artiste said it is the album’s emotional climax. She explained: “It is the slow, decided step and fall into gentleness, safety, and love. It is the end of the bitter, scary, passionate journey in which you come to know yourself, you question what you deserve and accept it.”
She further revealed that the song was inspired by two particular incidents in her life. “It is the slow, decided step and subsequent fall into gentleness, safety, and love,” she said. “It comes after the bitter, terrifying, passionate journey where you discover yourself, you question what you deserve, and you are finally able to accept it.”
She described the completed song as “the relief of emotional epiphany, where you find love and understanding, just not where you thought or expected.”
Her sophomore album titled “The Fatal Flaw” is coming hot on the heels of her 2024 debut album “Cacophony,” which has achieved over one billion streams. The album title comes from the opening line of Donna Tartt’s novel The Secret History. It features seascapes of J.W. Turner, writings of bell hooks, and the Pre-Raphaelite romantic style. The album cover features a red tree inspired by Ithell Colquhoun’s “Diagrams of Love,” representing the album’s journey from emotional block to overflow.
The tracklist of the album comprises songs such as “Miyazaki”, “Rothko”, “Stem the Flow”, “The Bleeding Part of Me”, “get her the fucking flowers”, “Pre Raphaelite”, “Good Girl”, “Pyrrhus (you go where I cannot)”, “Silhouette on the Hill”, “Good Boy”, “Beautiful Birds”, and “I Cry in Front of Paintings”.
Previous singles such as “Pre Raphaelite”, “Miyazaki”, “Stem The Flow”, “Good Boy”, and “Good Girl” have generated 30 million streams collectively. Her 2023 single “Labour”, a feminist anthem that earned platinum status has garnered over 1 billion streams. Singer Sofia Isella recently performed “Labour” alongside Paloma at Hinterland Music Festival.
The artiste, who is based in Brighton, England, has also performed at Lollapalooza and Osheaga this year. She is set to promote the album further via what she describes as her biggest tour yet. The tour will include The Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, Brooklyn Paramount in New York, the 9:30 Club in Washington, First Avenue in Minneapolis, and the Warfield in San Francisco.
Paloma has appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, “BBC’s Later… with Jools Holland”, and “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, and has been covered by The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, and Billboard. She has been named YouTube’s Trending Artist on the Rise, Amazon’s Breakthrough Artist to Watch, and Spotify’s EQUAL Ambassador. She also featured the song “The Rider” in the movie “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim”.
