Netflix has just given the green light to a brand-new romantic comedy called Messily Ever After (working title), which tells the story of a couple on the crazy ride of a decade-long relationship full of love but also friction.
The romantic comedy features Kim Min-ha and Noh Sang-hyun as Su-hyun and Hyun-tae, two people in love but constantly annoyed with each other. Kim Min-ha and Noh Sang-hyun previously worked together in Apple TV+’s Pachinko, and they are set to star in Messily Ever After, which tells the story of two college sweethearts who are now in a decade-long relationship.
According to Netflix, the romantic comedy begins with the two protagonists, Su-hyun and Hyun-tae, who meet at an art school and fall in love at first sight. Ten years later, they are still in love, albeit with a lot of friction, with the two characters doing crazy stunts in the name of their love.
Kim portrays Su-hyun, a perfectionistic curator who is tightly in control of her professional life but less so in her personal life, especially when it comes to love, emotions, and jealousy. Noh portrays Hyun-tae, an installation artist whose passion for his craft, combined with his willingness to stand up, adds to the chemistry between the two.
Messily Ever After represents a shift for the two actors, embracing the rom-com genre while continuing the chemistry they demonstrated in the Netflix drama “Pachinko.” The two are a couple so in sync that they can communicate with a single stare.
Messily Ever After is directed by up-and-coming director Seo Jung-min and produced by Bombaram Film, the production company behind the YA romantic drama “Love Untangled” and the hit drama “Kim Ji-young, Born 1982.”
“We are continuing to amplify new voices in the industry, and this follows the success of titles such as ’20th Century Girl,’ ‘Lost in Starlight,’ and more.”
