A new comedic drama from Executive Producers Andy Parker, Norman Lear, Brent Miller, Rachel Davidson, Scott Hornbacher, and Sony Pictures Television, The Corps (working title), has been picked up to series by Netflix, the company announced today.
Greg Cope White, who works as a writer and producer for the show, is the author of the memoir “The Pink Marine,” which served as inspiration. There will be ten episodes in the series.
The Corps (WT), which takes place in 1990, tells the story of Cameron, a bullied gay high school student who enlists in the Marine Corps along with Ray, his best friend who is straight. This was a risky decision at a time when being gay in the military could result in jail time or worse. These two friends embark on a harrowing transformational journey with a platoon of young men as they enter Marine Corps boot camp, where landmines are both real and metaphorical.
Cameron Cope will be played by Miles Heizer (13 Reasons Why, Parenthood) in The Corps (WT). Barbara Cope will be portrayed by Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel, The Conjuring, When They See Us). Sgt. Sullivan will be played by Max Parker (Vampire Academy, Blood, Sex, & Royalty). Ray McCaffey will be played by Liam Oh (The Notebook at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Next To Normal at Writers Theatre). Staff Sergeant McKinnon will be played by Cedrick Cooper (Will Trent, Naomi). Captain Fajardo will be played by Ana Ayora (Truth Be Told, In The Dark). Hicks will be portrayed by Angus O’Brien (Night Sky, Hightown). Nash will be portrayed by Dominic Goodman (First Kill, Young Rock). Slovacek will be portrayed by Kieron Moore (Masters of the Air, Vampire Academy). Sgt. Howitt will be played by Nicholas Logan (The Inspection, Dark Winds).
Rico Paris (Crush, Tall Girl) will play Santos. Blake Burt (Unhuman, The Reliant) will play John Bowman. Logan Gould (Days of August) will play Mo Mason. Zach Roerig (Dare Me, Vampire Diaries) will play Sgt. Knox. Ochoa will be portrayed by Johnathan Nieves (Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels). Cody Bowman will be portrayed by Brandon Tyler Moore (Mayor of Kingstown, Law & Order). Benjy will be played by Ivan Hoey Jr. (NOS4A2, The Devil All the Time). Anthony Marble (Manhunt, Preacher) will play Harlan. Joy Osmanski (Stargirl, 1923) will play Ji-Yeong, rounding out the cast.
