Netflix has officially announced the much-anticipated return of the critically acclaimed animated series, Blue Eye Samurai, for a second season. The news comes hot on the heels of the show being named one of the Best TV Series of 2023 by Vanity Fair.
Creators, executive producers, and writers Amber Noizumi and Michael Green expressed their gratitude, stating, “When we started this project, we committed to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life most authentically and beautifully possible.”
Blue Eye Samurai is celebrated for its provocative and visually stunning cinematic experience, blending vivid adult animation with a live-action edge. The show is set in Edo-period Japan and follows Mizu, a mixed-race master of the sword (voiced by Maya Erskine), living a life in disguise fueled by a quest for revenge.
The first season received widespread acclaim for its compelling storytelling, rich animation, and a stellar voice cast that includes Maya Erskine, George Takei, Masi Oka, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Brenda Song, Darren Barnet, Randall Park, and Kenneth Branagh, among others.
“We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill!” shared Noizumi and Green in a joint statement.
The show’s success has been further solidified by its international viewership, and Netflix is eager to continue the journey. Season 2 details are yet to be revealed, leaving fans in suspense about the next chapter in Mizu’s gripping tale of vengeance.
