Netflix revealed plans for a new anime adaptation of the iconic manga “ONE PIECE” on the second day of Jump Festa 2024. The series, titled THE ONE PIECE, will begin with the legendary East Blue saga, rekindling the global anime community’s enthusiasm.
The highly anticipated series will be produced by the renowned WIT Studio, which is best known for its work on hit anime such as SPY x FAMILY and Attack on Titan (Seasons 1-3).
THE ONE PIECE, which is currently in production, will be exclusively streamed on Netflix worldwide, marking a significant collaboration with the production committee, which includes representatives from Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation Co.
In a joint statement, the committee expressed their enthusiasm for this groundbreaking project, emphasizing that THE ONE PIECE will provide a unique experience distinct from the long-running TV anime series. The goal is to provide viewers with a new yet familiar journey through Luffy’s adventures in the East Blue saga by utilizing cutting-edge visual technology.
“ONE PIECE,” created by Eiichiro Oda, celebrated its 25th anniversary in July 2022 and has sold over 510 million manga worldwide. The Netflix live-action ONE PIECE series has received praise, while Toei Animation’s TV anime series has been a staple since 1999.
In addition to THE ONE PIECE, Netflix is set to premiere another anime adaptation from Oda’s repertoire. “Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation,” based on a manga created by Oda at the age of 19, follows Ryuma, a samurai navigating a world disrupted by an ominous force—a dragon capable of catastrophic destruction.
This adaptation offers fans a unique glimpse into Oda’s early creative brilliance, providing a fresh perspective on his storytelling prowess and a window into his imaginative world. Anime enthusiasts can catch ‘Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation’ exclusively on Netflix starting January 2024, promising an action-packed journey into Oda’s early masterpiece.
