During an appearance on The View, Stewart issued Goldberg with a formal invitation to reprise her role as Guinan for the second season of the newest series. Goldberg became emotional at the offer before accepting. The talkshow host starred alongside Stewart, who portrays Captain Jean-Luc Picard, in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Fuck, I cried at this. And I’ll tell you, as much of a Trek nerd as I am, and I am so excited about the possibilities around Guinan returning, I’m also thrilled because the world will once again see what a fantastic actor Whoopi Goldberg is. This is marvelous news.
